The Tree
An archetype for healthy growth
The Tree

Love is the roots of a tree. The roots bind the tree to the earth and strengthen both. Love is at the heart of all good things. Love is kinship, kindness and friendship. Love is caring and compassion. For a healthy tree the roots have to be as strong as the trunk and branches. Yet the roots are unseen. Love is without ego. It is selfless. It is intuition.

Reason is the trunk that grows towards the sunlight. The trunk strengthens as it grows thicker year on year, the inner rings remember age and seasons. From darkness to light, reason defeats fear. It is the invention of the wheel. It is learning. It is enlightenment.

Consciousness is the chaos of the branches, twigs and leaf stems. The patterns of individuality that each chose their own direction to grow towards shafts of light. It is identity. It is self confidence. It is assertion of one's needs. It is freedom.

Openness is the space within the tree. With space shafts of sunlight filter through. With space rain falls from leaf to leaf. With space the tree can grow symmetrically. Symmetry provides strength to withstand storms. It is honesty. It is trust. It is equality.

Harmony is the being of a healthy tree. It is the leaves rustling in a light breeze. It is the balance of the roots and branches. It is the autumn fall of leaves, to mulch the earth and create new growth in the spring. Harmony is the minor retune of one's individuality for a greater symphony. It is flexibility and flow. Harmony is trust in all of oneself. It is being centred. Harmony is the preciousness of life and the acceptance of death. It is unity.
